Elvis
Bošnjak’s
dramatic firstborn – more exactly, his first-staged drama – shows surprising
writing maturity. The piece is set
as a thriller, and it's obvious that the author is very familiar with the
contemporary works of american authors like Mamet and Shephard and learned from
them about dramatic structure. Father,
nevertheless, is not a mere thriller, Bošnjak succeeds at something very
unexpected. This is a drama, from
genre’s point of view, that falls into the thriller-morality category, very
rare and at first view, impossible to pair.
The thriller genre is used to maintain the audience’s attention and as
a means of provoking deep reflection around the themes of good and evil,
punishment and forgiveness, sin and repentance (…)
The
fact that the whole text, in Split CNT’s Scene 55, opens up to all
possiblities, while at the same time keeping it’s dynamic, was the work of Nenni
Delmestre, in surely one of her best directions.
…the entire show is filled with the simple and clean spirit of theatrical
creation and does not need any outside spectacularity.
And eventhough it is hard to highlight any individual acting, this foursome (Josip
Genda, Elvis Bošnjak, Milan
Štrljić, Milivoj Beader) is
not a monolith, but a well represented conglomerate of characters which
re-create a harsh environment, each one portraying its individual, accurately
written and acted character (…) Serious, devoted, concentrated and without any
uncalled for exhibition, that is the key contribution of this acting foursome to
this play, which thanks to them grows to be an important theatrical fact that
spreads beyond Split’s boundaries.

Traces of news of a murder perpetrated in an american prison, where a man serving time for committing incest and double infanticide is hunted, after a big reward is offered to whoever kills him; Bošnjak, showing dramaturgic experience, inventive and a high leveled reflection, structured a tense story placing the events in Croatia, where questions about crime and forgiveness are still very much actual.(…)
