THE PERIOD BETWEEN 1968 AND 1993 by Anatolij Kudrjavcev |
In his survey of the theatrical life in Split since 1968, the distinguished theatre critic and chronicler points out two seasons, namely the ones of 1980/81 and 1988/89, as being exceptionally successful. In the period covering a quarter of a century, abounding with premieres which considerably varied in quality, as is usually the case in the theatre, and ranging from anthological performances to distinct failures, three openings have been singled out as particularly significant: the production of Milan Kundera s "Jacques the Fatalist" directed by Dino Radojević, de Filippo s "Filomena Marturano" directed by Vanča Kljaković and Manet's "The Day When Mary Shelley Met Charlotte Bront‘" directed by Želimir Mesarić. The past twenty-five theatrical seasons in Split have been marked by two directors: Vanča Kljaković and Marin Carić. A particular emphasis is laid on the theatrical event called "Marulić's Days", a festival of Croatian drama which has recently made Split a significant centre of the Croatian theatre and the venue of an important drama festival. |
