Zaprepašćuje nas njihova veličina, oko koje se katkad teško dogovaramo, pa je smanjujemo ili povećavamo, ovisno o tome što bismo brojkama htjeli reći. Ali, iza svih tih brojeva stoje lica, lica onih koji su ih čekali, nadali se do zadnjeg trena. A njih nema u brojkama i brojke ih ne mogu opisati. Upravo takva lica na scenu dovode Ariel Dorfman i Tony Kushner: prkosna i tvrda lica žena koje čekaju da im vrate muževe, sinove ili braću, da ih vrate žive ili mrtve, jer njima pripadaju. No, i politika će učiniti sve da žrtve ostanu samo njezino vlasništvo. Naime, premda mrtvi, još uvijek su oružje koje se može okrenuti protiv njih. Ova drama praizvedena je na festivalu u Edinburghu 1995. Ariel Dorfman i Tony Kushner za Udovice su godine 1988. primili nagradu New American Plays, a splitska predstava ujedno je i hrvatska praizvedba.

We are astonished by their extent, which we sometimes find hard to agree upon, so we reduce or increase them, depending on what we wish to express. But behind all those numbers, there are faces, faces of those who were waiting for them and hoping until the last moment. But they are not there and numbers cannot describe them. Such are the faces brought on stage by Ariel Dorfman and Tony Kushner: defiant and stiff faces of women waiting for their husbands, sons or brothers to come back, alive or dead, because they belong to them. Yet, politics will do anything to keep victims in its possession. Though dead, they are still a weapon that might turn against them. This drama was first performed at Edinburgh Festival in 1995. In 1988 Ariel Dorfman and Tony Kushner received New American Plays award for their Widows, and the performance in Split is its Croatian première.
